A necessary procedure to prevent discomfort and potential complications caused by gland blockages.
Anal gland disease is a common problem in dogs. Many pets will never experience this issue; however, some are more prone than others and can lead to more serious issues if not addressed. The anal glands or anal sacs are small glands found near the anus. Generally, the anal glands express themselves when your pet is having a bowel movement, but some pets can experience difficulty regularly expressing them causing them to scoot or bother with their hind end.
It is recommended to let our veterinarian team provide this service for your pet. If your pet is scooting, please contact the clinic to set up an exam.
The classic symptom of an inflammation or infection of anal sacs in dogs is scooting. They do this in an effort to alleviate the itching and irritation caused by an inflamed, infected, or impacted anal gland. If you notice your pet scooting or bothering with their hind end contact the clinic and we can book an appointment to have your pet examined.
