Puppy Vaccinations

Keep your canine companion protected with a vaccination plan.

Vaccines help prevent many illnesses that can affect your pet. It is very important to ensure your puppy gets the right protection on board at the right time. Puppies should go through a series of boosters that help ensure the proper level of antibodies to keep them protected to ward off potentially life-threatening diseases. Our veterinarian team at Hillcrest will discuss with you about your puppy’s specific needs and will put together a vaccination series that best suits their lifestyle to allow them to live a long and healthy life.

What vaccinations do you offer to new puppies?

Puppies should go through a series of boosters ideally starting at 8 weeks with follow up boosters at 12 and 16 weeks to ensure proper immunity has been achieved to keep your puppy protected. Vaccines included are a distemper/parvovirus and adenovirus vaccine series, leptospirosis, Bordetella and a rabies vaccine.

Why is it important to properly vaccinate your puppy?

It is important to properly vaccinate your puppy to ensure they have the appropriate level of immunity to reduce the risk of potentially life-threatening diseases.

What is an appropriate schedule for puppy vaccinations?

Puppies are routinely vaccinated at 8, 12 and 16 weeks. Our veterinarians can discuss with you your individual puppies’ needs and create a schedule that will best work for them.

How should you prepare your puppy for its first vaccination visit?

Bringing your puppy in for the first time should be an enjoyable experience. Bringing along a favourite toy or blanket may help them feel more comfortable. We recommend that you bring along a fresh fecal sample and any previous paperwork you may have on your pet. Our veterinarian will be glad to answer any questions you may have and will get your puppy started on the right track for a long and healthy life.
